Lietavová, Veronika ; Sedlák, Jan (referee) ; Kiszka, Josef (advisor)
The topic of diploma thesis is an ideological processing of a conception which will allow for a gradual transformation of a gardening colony to a place of primary living and improvement of pedestrian passages, because the area is inaccessible nowadays. The goal of this proposal is not a controlled and sudden change of the whole area it is the opposite of that, it leaves space for the autopoetic growth of the area. The proposal introduces new complementary functions in important points of the area, centres, from which not only the area of Židenický kopec will profit, but also other parts of the city of Brno. New functions respect the tradition of cultivation and gardening in the area, which is deeply rooted in this location and brings new forms of production of crops, thanks to which the districts of Židenice and Vinohrady can become more autonomous in the future. The focal point of the diploma project is a proposal of one of the chosen areas derived from urbanistic conception. The project of research centre with food production at the top of the Židenický kopec, which will become an “ecological lighthouse”, a new way of effective cultivation of crops using technology to obtain natural resources and improvement of sustainability of cities. Together with the gardening colony the research centre will allow the inhabitants of Židenice and Vinohrady an access to locally sourced food and will increase the awareness about many aspects of growth and the source of the food.
Information System for a Small Farmer
Kuchynka, Marek ; Burget, Radek (referee) ; Bartík, Vladimír (advisor)
The aim of the thesis was to design and create a web information system for a small farmer, which will be later used on a real farm. The core of the whole system is the OLAP analysis of incomes and expenses, which is based on the works done on fields, purchased materials and sold products. For implementation were chosen PHP, Nette - the Czech framework and MySQL database.
Vyhodnocení finančních nákladů na ochranu rostlin v konvenčním a ekologickém zemědělství
Stoklasová, Jitka
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the annual financial cost of purchasing chemical sprays and fertilizers for a 1,048 ha agricultural cooperative and to compare the benefits of conventional farming with organic farming. In the theoretical section a general characterization of pesticides and fertilizers is given. The most commonly used sprays and fertilisers in agriculture are also characterised. The chosen objective was addressed by means of an economic evaluation of the financial costs of all chemical products applied to crops during one marketing year. Specifically, a comparison of organic and conventional farming profits was made on crops located on both farms, namely winter wheat and spring barley. By comparing their yields, chemical prices, commodity purchase prices and subsequently profits and costs.
Czech public on homesteading and gardening - June/July 2023
Kyselá, Monika
A significant part of the regular CVVM Our Society survey conducted in June and July 2023 was dedicated to the topic of homesteading and gardening.\n\nThese topics are part of the activities of the Institute of Sociology of the CAS within the framework of the AV21 Food for the Future Strategy.\n\nSpecifically, we investigated whether people engage in various activities related to subsistence farming, whether they produce their own food (fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat, etc.) and if so, where and why, whether people who grow or produce something in their households give these products to someone or exchange them with someone, or with how many people.\n\nWe were also interested in the other side of the story, i.e. whether people themselves receive home-grown or home-produced food from someone.\n\nLast but not least, we also looked at how bio-waste is managed and how the current food supply compares to ten years ago.\n\nAbout half (47%) of people grow their own food in their garden, 7% in their flat or on their balcony.\n\n\nThe most important reasons why people produce their own food are obtaining healthy food (25%), fresh food (24%), saving money (19%) and that it's a hobby (15%).\n\n\nMore than two thirds (69%) of people give or trade some of what they grow or produce in their household to someone.\nPeople are most likely to receive home-grown food from close family members (55%) and friends (50%).\n\n\nThe most common way of managing bio-waste is to use brown bins (57%), and almost half of people compost bio-waste in the garden (47%). Around a quarter of people who sort bio-waste in their household take it to a collection yard (26%) or give the sorted bio-waste to animals (25%). Less than a fifth use bulk containers (18%) or donate it to someone else (17%). The use of vermicomposters (5%) and community gardens (1%) is very marginal.\n\n\nHalf (49%) of people work in their garden on a regular basis, i.e. at least once a month during the season, a third (33%) go foraging for mushrooms, berries or herbs, and 12% keep domestic animals.\n\n\nMore than two-fifths (41%) of respondents believe that their household food supply has not changed between now and ten years ago.
Obhospodarovaná pôda v kontexte ochrany prírody a krajiny na území CHKO Moravský kras
Vavřiková, Veronika
The objective of the bachelor thesis was to investigate the main soil differences between cultivated and uncultivated soils on selected plateaus in the Moravian Karst. During the field investigation, mixed soil samples were collected and the physical properties, physicochemical properties and chemical properties of the soils were analysed in the laboratory. In terms of hydrophysical properties, the cultivated soil retained water in smaller amounts compared to the comparison area. Carbon, nitrogen and C/N ratio were higher in the unmanaged soil. From the resultant values, it is evident that intensive management has an effect on soil properties in karst landscape. All the resulting values from the analyses performed were evaluated and then recorded in graphs and tables.

Farming robot R4Farmer
Hurt, Tomáš ; Pergel, Martin (advisor) ; Holan, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to propose a robotic farmer emulator. After designing this toolkit, we focus on algorithms solving particular problems related to the use of such a robot. Mainly we attach the question of a route planning during the field processing (while ploughing, seeding and irrigating). The project should help with a design of a real robot which is being designed separately by other colleagues. It should help with the study of feasibility and eliminate particular risks of economic loss (caused by move of a real robot on a field - or outside of it).
The donkey - a livestock or a pet? (Breeding and use of donkeys in Polabí lowland - a case study)
Diblíčková, Eliška ; Bartoš, Michael (advisor) ; Veverková, Zuzana (referee)
Donkeys have been useful helpers to people especially at transporting burdens and in agriculture for thousands of years. Nowadays they make livelihoods of rural as well as urban inhabitants over all continents easier. The use of donkeys in agriculture and transport is vanishing in developing countries due to the mechanization. We know only little about how and why people keep breeding of donkeys in developing countries. Theoretical part of the thesis tries to summarize previous basic knowledge about breeding and using donkeys. It focuses on domestication of donkeys, their use in history in different parts of the world, current position of donkeys and partly on relations between men and animals from the view of Human-Animal Studies. A research in a part of Polabí lowland is added. The main practical aim of the thesis is to take a look at the phenomenon of breeding donkeys in the Czech Republic in the present and bring any findings about why do people breed donkeys in modern times in this developing country. Research finds how are donkeys bred, what reasons lead breeders to get donkeys and what their real use is. The thesis contributes to popularization of this theme among experts and laymen and suggests methodology for research of breeding donkeys in other areas as well.
